Privacy Policy — Smart Summarizer

Smart Summarizer (“the extension”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

What the extension stores

Your selected AI provider, API key, model, response language, custom prompt and theme preference are saved using Chrome’s storage API. This data stays in your own browser/Chrome profile and is never sent to the developer or any third party other than your chosen AI provider (see below).

What data is sent, and where

When you choose “Summarize with AI” on selected text, that selected text and your prompt are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you selected, using your own API key. Depending on your choice this is one of:

• Google Gemini — generativelanguage.googleapis.com
• Groq — api.groq.com
• OpenRouter — openrouter.ai
• Mistral — api.mistral.ai

The extension does not run its own servers. No selected text, browsing history, or personal data is collected, logged, or transmitted to the developer. Each provider’s handling of the request is governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy.

What the extension does NOT do

• It does not track your browsing.
• It does not read page content until you explicitly select text and trigger the summarize action.
• It does not sell or share your data, and does not use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or any purpose unrelated to summarizing your selected text.

Permissions

• contextMenus — add the “Summarize with AI” right-click item.
• storage — save your settings locally.
• activeTab + scripting — only when you trigger a summary (via the right-click menu), the extension injects a small script into the page you are viewing to show the result popup. It does not run in the background or on pages you have not acted on.
• Host access to the four provider API domains — call the API you selected.

Data retention

Your settings remain in your browser until you change them, click “Reset”, or remove the extension. Selected text is sent for a single request and is not stored by the extension.
